The Beach at Tulum, Mexico
Last October, while studying Spanish at a school in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, I took a trip to Tulum. With it's rugged coastline, powdered-sugar sands, lush palms and jade-green water, Tulum is so spectacular I had trouble boarding the bus to go home.
Tulum's Mayan ruins, believed to have been occupied during the late post-classic period (AD 1200 -1521) are dramatically situated atop rocky cliffs that overlook a beautiful expanse of ocean.
Imagine being one of the Maya who got to live here!
Spend an afternoon wandering through the ruins, floating in the tranquil sea, and making friends with the many iguanas that bask in the sunshine. You'll see -- Tulum is one of those places you'll put on your "will never forget" list.
