Have you learned how to weave a hammock in Guatemala? Or to play the drums in Togo?
Or how about herding horses in Mongolia?
If you've been itching to get your feet wet in travel writing, here's your chance!
Matador Network, one of my favorite travel communities on the web, has put out a call for story submissions about learning experiences worldwide.
This sounds like a column I'd enjoy reading, as I love learning local skills during my travels.
"Local" is important: What they are looking for are stories about your experiences learning unique skills native to the country or area you're visiting, not so much the more common experiences such as learning Spanish in Mexico. As they say on their site:
"Tell us about the flower-arranging class you took in Japan or how you learned to conduct an Ethiopian coffee ceremony in Addis Ababa. Your experience doesn't have to be a formal course attached to an institution, but it should be something other travelers can search out and replicate."
The submissions need only be between 300-800 words, so go for it! You can find more information on Matador's
post.
