The Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Camii) Istanbul, Turkey
An unexpected snowstorm hit Istanbul the day I arrived. Here, a soft powder falls gently upon one of Istanbul's most beautiful mosques -- the Blue Mosque, or Sultan Ahmet Camii -- named for it's blue-green tiles. Rising to the east of the old Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque's six slender minarets and cascading domes dominate the Istanbul skyline.
The snow gave the mosque an ethereal quality. Quite an introduction to Istanbul, and Turkey.
